This hefty tome (almost 3kg in weight!) of the Household Physician by McGregor Robertson was published by The Gresham Publishing Company in 1902. It is the Second Edition, Revised and Enlarged.
It’s a fascinating book, covering a very wide range of conditions - from broken bones to insanity, mumps to dementia. A lot of the information would not be medically sound in the modern day but it is fascinating to see how the late Victorians viewed and treated medical condition 😂
The book is bound in quarter leather over maroon cloth boards. The text block edges are marbled. It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners which has caused the cloth to fray and split, revealing the board beneath. There is wear to the board edges and marking to the boards. There is significant wear to the spine, with loss to the surface of the leather at the spine ends and spine edges. The leather also shows some scuffs and superficial cracking to the surface.
Inside, the pages show age toning throughout with sporadic foxing and handling marks. There are both colour plates and black and white illustrations within the text.
Dimensions approximately 25.5cm x 18.5cm x 8cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
