For anyone who has read Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer, you will be familiar with the concept of Dance Cards. These were given to young ladies attending balls and gentlemen would ask for particular dances and their name would be added in the appropriate place on the card.
Now unfortunately these aren't as old as the Regency or Victorian era. They're from the early 20th century - the 1910's and 1920's - but still offer a fascinating insight into what dances and balls might have been like.
There are 13 cards in the bundle, and it's fascinating looking at the different dances and how many men managed to get more than one dance out of the lady! There is some pencilled notes and dates to some of the card, and one even has a little sketch of a man smoking.
One has a tear which is shown in the photo
