This scarce edition of A Guid Scotch Dictionary was published by David Bryce & Son. The book itself is undated but after some research, I'd estimate it to be from circa 1900.
The book is bound in dark navy leather with a gilt thistle decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but as can be seen from the photos, there is wear to the corners, board edges and spine, with loss to the surface of the leather. The gilt decoration is rubbed and the spine is sunned. There is loss to the leather at the head of the spine and splitting to the leather at the tail of the spine.
Inside, there is a name and date written in pencil on the front free endpaper and a couple of small chips to the top edge of the FFEP. The pages show varying degrees of tanning/toning, and there are cracks to the gutter throughout. Some page segments are a bit wobbly but there are no detached pages.
This quirky Scotch dictionary measures 16.2m x 7.3cm x 1.4cm.
The book will be hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
