This scarce and lovely edition of Winners in Life's Race (or the Great Backboned Family) by Arabella Buckley was published by Macmillan and Co Ltd in 1927.
The book is bound in green cloth with stunning decoration in gilt and black to the front board and spine. It's a really eye catching book. It's in good condition but the corners and board edges are worn; there is minor splitting and fraying in the cloth at the corners. The front board shows light rubbing to the gilt and there are a couple of small marks to the back board. The spine is darkened, whilst rubbing to the spine edges has caused some small splits in the cloth. Crushing to the spine ends has also caused splitting.
Inside, there is a very faint stamp to the front pastedown. The pages show age toning and occasional foxing/marking. The half title page is very tanned. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
There are beautiful black and white illustrations throughout which bring this lovely book to life. Dimensions approximately 19.5cm x 13.8cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
