This stunning First Edition of The Praise of Gardens by Albert Forbes Sieveking was published by J M Dent and Sons Ltd in 1899.
The book is bound in green cloth with striking gilt detailing to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and board edges, and some loss to the surface colour of the cloth. There are minor marks to the boards and light sunning to the spine. The spine ends are crushed which has caused slight splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a name written on the front pastedown and an inscription on the front free endpaper. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout.
The pages are rough cut which is a wonderful feature in old books and really adds to their antique charm. There are also black and white illustration plates throughout the book.
Dimensions approximately 21.3cm x 15cm x 4.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
