This beautiful antique edition of British Ferns and their Allies by Thomas Moore was published by George Routledge and Sons. The book itself is undated but there is a written name inside dated 1877. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
The book is bound in red cloth over bevelled boards with stunning gilt decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition but there is wear to the corners and board edges with some minor splitting and fraying to the cloth. The boards show minor marks and scuffing, and the spine is sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting and loss in the cloth.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing (most prominent to the preliminary pages). There is a name and date written in pen on the verso of the frontispiece.
The book features stunning colour plates throughout - there are also black and white line drawings within the text.
Dimensions approximately 16.3cm x 10.8cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
