This beautiful first edition of A History of Booksellers by Henry Curwen was published by Chatto and Windus in 1873. It's bound in full calf leather with gilt decoration to the spine and marbled text block edges. There is double gilt ruled edges to the boards and blind stamped borders. Blind inner dentelles.
The book is in very good with some wear to corners which has caused splitting to the leather. The board edges also show light wear and there is dulling to the top edge of the text block. The leather shows some scuffing and chipping, as well as marking.
Inside, there are no inscriptions but there is a name and address glued to the front free endpaper. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing throughout.
Dimensions of the book are approximately 19cm x 13cm x 3.8cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
