This lovely edition of Wild and Fearless The Life of Margaret Fountaine by Natascha Scott Stokes was published by Peter Owen in 2006. The book has it's original dust jacket.
Margaret Fountaine travelled the world between 1892 and 1940, breeding and collecting specimens. She was a Victorian lepidopterist, natural history illustrator, diarist, and traveller - collecting butterflies in sixty countries and six continents over fifty years. At the age of 27, Fountaine and her sisters became financially independent, having inherited a considerable sum of money from their uncle - freeing her up to pursue her passion.
The book is in excellent condition with just some faint scuffing to the covers of the DJ.
Inside, there is a name plate on the front pastedown but no other signs of use.
The book features a small collection of stunning photographed illustrations. Reading this book really feels like stepping back in time and it's so rare to see a Victorian lady who was free to travel and pursue her passion so completely.
