This stunning leather bound edition of Selected Stories from Our Village by Miss Mitford was published by Blackie and Sons. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate inside dated 1912. So the book is from the early 20th century.
The book is bound in full calf leather with a blind stamped college insignia in gilt to the front board. The spine features five raised bands and beautiful gilt tooling. The text block edges were once marbled but this is very faded and can only be clearly seen to the bottom edge of the text block.
It's in good condition for it's age but there is uneven fading to the boards (it's obviously been kept in a sunny place sandwiched between smaller books). There is foxing to the text block edges and scuffing to the leather. The spine is faded and marked, with some very small chips to the leather near the tail of the spine.
Inside, the book features marbled endpapers and there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show light toning, with sporadic foxing most noticeably to the page margins.
The dimensions of the book are approximately 18cm x 12.5cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in biodegradable bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
