This beautiful vintage edition of Cranford by Mrs Elizabeth Gaskell was published by The Walter Scott Publishing Company Ltd. The book isn't dated but there is a name and date written inside of 1902. So the book is either from the end of the Victorian era or the start of the Edwardian era!
The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards, with blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine, and floral work to the back board. It's in good condition but has undergone some restoration work - the text block has been resewn as it was very loose. This means the book can be read and enjoyed for many years to come and the pages are securely bound. Some of the page segments stick out a little front the edge of the text block though. There is wear to the corners and board edges, and the boards show minor marks and air bubbling to the cloth. There is some rubbing to the gilt and the spine is sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the pages show age toning and sporadic foxing throughout. There is a name and date written on the front free endpaper. The book features many black and white illustrations which add to the charm of this antique book.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
