This lovely and striking edition of Life and Her Children by Arabella Buckley was published by Edward Stanford in 1901. Arabella Buckley was an English writer and science educator. She was a particular champion of Darwinian evolution but focused more on the mind and morals, rather than competition and physical survival. She wrote multiple books for children, presenting scientific fact in a story book setting, much like a mother educating her children.
The book is bound in original grey cloth with blind stamped decoration in gilt and black to the front board and spine. It's a really eye catching book and in very good condition. There is light wear to the corners and marking to the gilt text block edges. There is some wear to the board edges and spine edges; there is faint sunning to the spine and crushing to the spine ends.

Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and college stamps to both the half title page and Contents page. The pages show light age toning throughout and sporadic foxing/marking. There are occasional cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
There are beautiful black and white illustrations throughout which bring this lovely book to life.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 13.2cm x 3.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
