This beautiful edition of The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Mrs Elizabeth Gaskell was published by Smith Elder and Co in 1874. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
It is half bound in half calf leather with marbled paper boards, and the text block edges are marbled to match. It's in very good condition considering it's 150 years old. There is very light sunning to the spine with some minor chips to the leather. The corners are lightly worn with some minor loss to the surface of the leather, and the boards are lightly scuffed.
Inside, the pages show some age toning and occasional foxing but the text is clear and bright. The endpapers are beautifully marbled to compliment the boards.
Dimensions approximately 18cm x 12cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
