This lovely antique edition of The Fairy Tales of Madame D'Aulnoy was published in 1895 by Lawrence and Bullen. This edition was "newly done into English with an Introduction by Anne Thackeray Ritchie and illustrated by Clinton Peters". At the time of listing I can find no other editions in this binding online.
It is bound in original beige cloth with decoration blind stamped in brown to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but there are noticeable signs of wear. The book has a pronounced forward lean and the corners have worn through to the board beneath. The back corners are bumped. The cloth shows some light marking and there is rubbing and dulling to the decoration on the spine. There is splitting to the cloth at the back joint, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting.
Inside, the front free endpaper has been removed and there is cracking to the gutter. The pages show scattered foxing and creasing throughout, with occasional handling marks.
The book is filled with black and white illustrations. Dimensions approximately 21.5cm x 18cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
