This stunning edition of The Princess and The Goblin by George Macdonald was published by Blackie and Sons. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1906. So the book is likely to be from the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in teal cloth with stunning art nouveau decoration to the front board, depicting a beautiful woman catching leaves as they fall from a tree. The spine features intricate gilt detail.
The book is in good condition considering it's approximately 120 years old, but there is a pronounced forward lean to the book. The corners show light wear, with some very slight splitting to the cloth which has revealed the board peeking out beneath. There is bumping to the board edges and the back board has a green ink mark. The boards also show some faint scuffing and rubbing. The spine is sunned and discoloured, with some minor loss and dulling to the gilt. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and this has left an impression on the FFEP. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout, with occasional marks. There is cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features black and white illustration throughout.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.

I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
