This stunning edition of The Poetical Works of Robert Burns was published by David Bryce and Son. The book is undated but there is a written inscription dated 1892.
The book features a dark leather spine with gilt lettering and decoration. The boards are mauchline ware, and feature the interior of Burns' cottage on the front.
Mauchline Ware was a technique that originated in the 1830's in the Scottish town of Mauchline in which a transfer print was applied to a lacquered wooden object.
It's in very good condition but there is chipping to the bottom corner of the front board. The boards show minor marks and the book has a slight forward lean. A couple of pages stick out from the edge of the text block but the pages remain tightly bound.
Inside, there is some loss to the surface of the endpapers and there is a written inscription on the verso of the FFEP. The pages show foxing throughout, and a couple of small splash marks which have caused the red tint to leak into the pages a little.
Dimensions approximately 9cm x 6.5cm x 2.2cm.
