This stunning edition of The Poetical Works of Longfellow was published by WP Nimmo, Hay and Mitchell. The book itself is undated but these bindings usually date from around 1905-1910. So the book is likely Edwardian. It is bound in quarter vellum over blue cloth boards, with stunning floral decoration in gilt and navy to the spine. Top edge gilt.
It's in very good condition with light wear to the corners and some discolouration to the boards. The vellum shows minor marking and soiling, with light rubbing to the decoration.
Inside, the free endpapers and tissue guard for the frontispiece are tanned. The pages show light age toning with occasional foxing and creasing.
Book measures approximately 19.3cm x 13cm x 3.2cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
