This rare and stunning edition of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen was published in by J M Dent and Co Ltd. It made up part of the English Idylls Series of books. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from between 1900 and 1910 (based on other books I've seen in this series).
The book is bound in cream cloth and features elaborate red floral decoration to the front board. The spine features complimentary decoration in gilt.
The book is in remarkably good condition for it's age, but there is light wear to the corners and tanning around the edges of the boards. The board edges show light shelf wear and bumping, and the spine is slightly darkened with dulling to the gilt. Crushing to the spine has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There is a very faint stain to the front board.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning and occasional creasing but are in very good, antique condition.
These English Idylls editions don't come up frequently so it's a special find for my shop. It also features 15 colour illustrations by C E Brock, one of the most popular and iconic illustrators of Jane Austen's works.
Dimensions approximately 19.8cm x 12.5cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
