This little treasure of a Friendship Album is filled with Paintings, Drawings and Poems by Ruby Bailey and her friends in the 1920's. Friendship albums were popular in the early 20th century and young people asked friends and family to put their mark inside the book - with a mixture of drawings, paintings and poems. This book dates to the 1920's right through to 1939.
The book features a leather binding over cushioned boards with the word Album in gilt to the front board. It's in very good condition, with just light wear to the corners and spine ends. The front cover shows some minor marks.
Inside, there is cracking to the gutter just after the FFEP but the pages remain tightly bound. Ruby wrote her name and address on the reverse of the FFEP, and there is some surface damage to the paper just to the left of this. The book features a mixture of paintings, sketches, drawings, poems and even a portrait silhouette. There are also some blank pages.
Dimensions approximately 20cm x 12.5cm x 1.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
