This beautiful antique edition of The Ursuline Manual features a Collection of Prayers Spiritual Exercises etc interspersed with the Various Instructions necessary for Forming Youth to the Practice of Solid Piety arranged for the Young Ladies Educated at the Ursuline Convent Cork. It was published in 1851 and features original black full leather binding with original brass clasp. The spine decorated in gilt with five raised bands, original red leather spine label lettered in gilt. The page edges are gilt and gauffered with an attractive design. Gauffering describes the act of applying a patterned decoration to the text block edges of a book. The boards are beautifully decorated with impressed detail.
The book is in remarkably good condition for it's age but there is wear and crushing to the corners and rubbing to the board edges. This has caused some loss to the surface of the leather. The brass clasp is rubbed and scratched, and the boards show bumping, chipping and scuffing to the leather. The gilt on the spine is rubbed and dulled, and there is wear to the spine edges with loss to the surface of the leather. There is a very slight crack starting to the top of the external front hinge.
Inside, the front free endpaper is detached and has a neatly written name and date on it. There is soiling to the endpapers and cracking to the hinges. The pages show age toning throughout, with occasional minor marks and foxing. There is significant tanning and foxing to the preliminary pages.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
