This little treasure of a book features hand written poems from the late Victorian and Edwardian era. It must have been commissioned by the poet and is probably one of a kind. It's named Godfrey P Heisch and after googling the name, it appears he may have exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society in 1897 - a man of many talents!
The book is bound in full calf leather with five raised bands to the spine and gilt text block edges with gauffered decoration. It features a delicate pattern of trailing leaves across every text block edge. Gauffering describes the act of applying a patterned decoration to the text block edges of a book. The boards are beautifully decorated with impressed detail.
The leather is in good condition for it's age but there is some light marking and scuffing to the boards (the scuffing is worse to the front board) and discolouration to the edges of the back board. The spine is rubbed and faded, and the gilt on the top edge of the text block is a little dulled.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there is a name written on one of the preliminary blank pages. The book features 31 pages of hand written poetry.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
