This little treasure of a Friendship Album is filled with Paintings, Poems and Humorous Verse/Drawings by Peggy Wylie and her friends in the 1920's. Friendship albums were popular in the early 20th century and young people asked friends and family to put their mark inside the book - with a mixture of drawings, paintings and poems. This book dates to through the 1920's.
The book features a leather binding over cushioned boards with the word Album in gilt to the front board. It's in good condition, but there is significant wear to the corners and edges, as well as minor loss to the spine ends. The leather is marked and soiled, with a small stain to the back cover. The hinges are cracked inside which makes the boards feel a bit loose.
Inside, Peggy wrote her name and address on the FFEP, and both internal hinges are cracked. The book features a mixture of paintings, sketches, drawings, poems and even a portrait - some are very humorous! There are also some blank pages and a pressed sprig.
Dimensions approximately 19.3cm x 13.8cm x 1.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
