This stunning edition of The Princess and The Goblin by George Macdonald was published by Blackie and Son in 1911.
The book features 30 Illustrations in black and white and 12 Colour Plates. The binding features beautiful art nouveau decoration by Glasgow designer Talwin Morris. It is bound in original blue cloth with a colour onlay to the front board. The art nouveau floral pattern in featured on both the front board and the spine.
It's in very good condition for it's age - the best one I've seen in this binding - with the main flaw of note being the slight loss to the top corner of the back board (see photo). The other corners are rubbed and there is light scuffing to the boards. The spine is very faintly sunned, and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, a name tag has been threaded through the front free endpaper and bears the name Margy. There is also a written inscription to Margy on the half title page. The pages show foxing throughout and there are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places. Despite this, the pages are tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 20.5cm x 15cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
