This lovely, antique edition of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen was published by London Macmillan and Co in 1907. So the book is from the Edwardian era. The binding is contemporary however. When I acquired it, the book was bound in plain textured black leather, with no identifying marks to the outside to say what the book was. I contacted one of my incredible book restorers and asked if she could turn it into something more worthy of Austen - a black leather binding didn't feel right! The result is stunning. An oval purple leather insert has been put into the front cover, with tooled title and author. This has been surrounded by a frame of hand painted flowers and the flowers appear on the spine as well. The book has become something beautiful and unique - nothing exists with the same binding as it was a custom job.

The book also features the iconic Hugh Thomson illustrations; one of the most popular illustrators of Jane Austen's work.
Thanks to the contemporary binding, the book is in excellent condition. The book shows a slight forward lean and there is some minor wear and chipping to the board edges and corners.
Inside, the book has new endpapers and there is a pencilled number to the half title page. The pages are clean and bright, with only light age toning and occasional foxing. Some of the pages show creasing.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
