This beautiful, antique edition of the The Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier was published by Henry Frowde in 1898. So the book is from the late Victorian era.
The book is half bound in vellum with delicate red and gilt decoration in an art nouveau style to the spine. The boards are bound in marbled paper. It's in very good condition for it's age, and the vellum is clean and bright with only light soiling and marking. Vellum is notorious for being easily soiled and discoloured, so it's lovely to find an edition in such good condition. The marbled paper also shows some discolouration and minor marking, and the book has a slight forward lean.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to compliment the binding and there are no inscriptions or writings of any kind. The pages show light age toning and there is foxing to the preliminary pages.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
