This beautiful, antique edition of The Complete Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson was published by Macmillan in 1907. So the book is from the Edwardian era. The book is half bound in vellum with delicate gilt decoration in an art nouveau style to the spine. The boards are marbled paper and top edge is gilt. There is a insignia in gilt to the front board.
It's in very good condition with just light foxing to the text block edges. There is some scuffing and light chipping to the leather title label and the vellum shows minor marking and discolouration. The spine has been cleaned, leaving it slightly paler than the vellum on the boards. There is a small bump to the bottom edge of the text block.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there is a bookseller's sticker to the bottom corner of the front pastedown. There is a name in pencil to one of the preliminary blank pages. The pages are clean and bright with light age toning and sporadic foxing (most prominent to the page edges).
Dimensions approximately 19.5cm x 13.5cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
