This beautiful antique edition of The Fairie's Favourite Or the Story of Queen Victoria Told for Children was published by Ash Partners in 1897. So the book is from the late Victorian era.
It's a curious book, taking the story of Queen Victoria's Life and adding fairies to the mix! It's a rare book and at the time of listing, I can't find any other editions online.
The book is bound in cream cloth with stunning floral decoration to the boards - it has quite an art nouveau style to it. Sadly the cream cloth is very soiled and marked, and no longer looks cream. There is bumping to the board edges and a small chip in the cloth at the bottom edge of the front board. The corners are worn and crushed, and the spine is darkened. The book shows a slight backwards lean.
Inside, the front free endpaper is completely detached but present and the back free endpaper is loose but still attached. The endpapers are very tanned and there are cracks to the gutter in places. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout.
The book features beautiful black and white illustration plates which add to the charm of this late Victorian book.
