This beautiful, antique edition of Wagner's Heroines by Constance Maud was published by Edward Arnold and Co in 1896. So the book is from the late Victorian era.
The book is bound in black cloth with stunning gilt decoration blind stamped to the front board and spine. It's a really striking binding and in good condition for it's age. The book shows a forward lean and there is light wear and crushing to the corners. The boards have some light marking and scuffing, and there is bumping to the bottom edge of the back board. The spine is very faintly sunned, with crushing to the spine ends which has caused some minor splitting in the cloth. There is a small hole in the cloth of the spine, just to the right of the gilt flowers.
Inside, there is a neatly written name and date on the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning and foxing, with occasional marking in places. The page edges are rough cut and some are a little rougher than others - they're quite jagged in fact and appear to have been separated by hand. There are some sporadic cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book is filled with stunning illustrations which make this an extra special read.
Dimensions approximately 19.5cm x 14.5cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
