The book is bound in teal cloth with ornate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. The text block edges are also gilt. It's in very good condition for it's age, but there are some condition points to be aware of. There is wear and bumping to the corners, with the cloth split to reveal the board peeking out beneath. The book has a forward lean and there is rubbing and light bumping to the board edges. The boards show light rubbing, and the back board also shows faint scratching and marking. The spine is faintly sunned and there is minor dulling to the gilt on the spine. There are a couple of small holes in the cloth covering the external joints, and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a name written on the reverse of the FFEP and the pages show light age toning throughout. There is occasional foxing and minor marking. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is missing and there is a diagonal crease to page 469. There are some cracks to the gutter in places but the pages feel securely bound.
The illustrations are by the Victorian illustrator Hugh Thomson, who was best known for his illustrations of Jane Austen's works.
Dimensions approximately 18.6cm x 13cm x 3.4cm.
