This beautiful, antique edition of Days with Sir Roger de Coverley Reprint from the Spectator was published in 1892 by Macmillan and Co. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in teal cloth with elaborate gilt detailing to the front board and spine. It's a real beauty and the gilt compliments the teal cloth superbly. It was part of the Cranford Series released by the publisher Macmillan and Co. It's in very good condition for it's age but the book does show a forward lean and there is wear to the corners, with tiny splits to the cloth revealing the board beneath. There is some marking and scuffing to the boards, with very slight air bubbling to the cloth in places. The spine is faintly sunned, with crushing to the spine ends; there is a small split to the head of the spine.
Inside, the pages show scattered foxing and the paper is lightly toned. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is tanned and there is a written inscription on one of the preliminary blank pages. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. The beautiful black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson add to the charm of this Victorian book.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 12.8cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
