This beautiful, antique edition of The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith was published in 1891 by Macmillan and Co. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era. It was part of the Cranford series - books bound in teal cloth, with elaborate gilt decoration. They've become popular with modern day collectors, in part because of Bookstagram. What's particularly exciting about this edition is that it still has some of it's original dust jacket - I've never seen this before and didn't even know Macmillan produced these with dust jackets!
The book is in very good condition for it's age, with just light wear and crushing to the corners. The book has a forward lean and some minor scuffs to the back board. Some of the gilt on the front board is a deeper gold than the rest. The spine ends are crushed.
Inside, the pages show foxing throughout and there is a written inscription on one of the preliminary pages. The dust jacket is missing it's spine and is consequently in two pieces. The paper is very toned, with marks and staining to the DJ; there is wear and tear to the edges. There are striking black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson add to the charm of this Victorian book.

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
