This beautiful antique edition of Sara Crewe or What Happened at Miss Minchin's by Frances Hodgson Burnett was published by London Frederick Warne and Co in 1888 - published the same year as the first edition. The book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
Before Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote A Little Princess, she wrote Sara Crewe or What Happened at Miss Minchin's. It's the original version of A Little Princess, which Burnett revised and published in 1905, and still has the essence of Burnett's Little Princess.
The book is bound in red cloth over bevelled boards, with blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age, but the book shows a pronounced forward lean and there is wear and fraying to the cloth at the corners. The board edges are worn and bumped, and there is some minor marking and staining to the boards. The spine is sunned, with rubbing to the spine edges. Crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting and loss to the cloth.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned and there is minor cracking to the hinges. . The pages show scattered foxing and age toning throughout. There are some cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations which make it an extra special read.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
