This lovely little pocket edition of The Language and Poetry of Flowers was published by Thomas Nelson and Sons in 1875. So the book is from the mid Victorian era. It is bound in burgundy cloth over bevelled boards, with a raised colour illustration to the front board and gilt lettering to the front board and spine.
It's in good condition but sadly there is scratching and chipping to the front illustration and the corners show light wear. The cloth on the spine and front board is darkened, and there is crushing to the spine ends. The cloth shows soiling, marking and minor chipping to the surface colour of the cloth.
Inside, there is cracking to the gutter at places throughout the book but there are no loose pages. The pages are lightly age toned, with occasional foxing and marking. There is just one illustration - the colour frontispiece which is protected by a tissue guard. There is also a bookseller's sticker in the top corner of the front pastedown.
Dimensions approximately 15.3cm x 11.5cm x 1.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
