This beautiful antique edition of Poems by William Cullen Bryant was published by Richard Griffin and Co in 1860. So the book is from the earlier part of the Victorian era.
It's bound in red cloth over bevelled boards with beautiful floral gilt to the front board and spine. It's been restored - a new cloth spine has been inserted under the original spine which is called a spine reback.
It's in good condition for it's age but there is light soiling, rubbing and marking to the boards. The gilt on the front board is dulled and worn, but brighter on the spine. The book has a slight forward lean and there is wear and crushing to the corners - the cloth has split slightly to the corners revealing the board peeking out from beneath. The spine ends are crushed and split, and the new spine can be seen peeking out from under the old one in places.
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with tape and the endpapers are marbled. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout (the foxing is particularly bad to the preliminary pages).
There are beautiful black and white illustrations inside which make this old edition even more special.
Book Size: 23.3cm x 17.8cm x 3cm (Approx.)

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
