This beautiful antiquarian edition of Ezechiel was published in Paris in 1698. The book was rebound by a Spanish binder in the noble city of Avila in the 1930's with a binding to compliment the original 17th century binding. The full leather binding features elaborate gilt decoration to the boards and spine, with five raised bands to the spine. All edges are gilt, with gauffered detailing, including a message from a son to his mother. The gauffered text block edges read " A Ma Tres Tendre Mere Lilian Para Vicini D Watteville D Son Fils Vincent. It would have been a very expensive and heartfelt gift from a son to his mother.
The book's stunning binding was completed by two skilled binders in the 1930's - they added two hand drawn vellum sheets at either end of the book, dated 1932-1933 in France.
The book is in very good condition with the most noticeable flaw being the loss to the leather tassels - one tassel is missing completely and one of the leather loops is missing a piece so it's broken into two. There is wear and loss to the surface of the leather - particularly to the board edges and corners. The book shows a slight backwards lean and there is minor wear and loss to the surface of the spine.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there are beautiful gilt inner dentelles. As mentioned above, two vellum pages have been inserted by the binder - one at the front and another at the back. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout, with occasional stains and creasing in places.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
