This lovely late Georgian edition of Catechism of Zoology was published in 1831 by Whittaker, Treacher and Co. The book is bound in contemporary half calf with marbled paper boards. The spine features three raised bands, a leather title label and delicate gilt tooling. The book features seven different areas of Zoology.
It’s in good condition but there is peeling and loss to the paper at the board edges and the corners also show wear and slight crushing. There is some chipping and surface loss to the paper covered boards. There is also wear to the spine edges and ends which has caused minor loss to the surface of the leather. One page segment sticks out slightly from the edge of the text block but remains tightly bound.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright but do show occasional foxing and age staining (most prominent to the title pages/chapter headers and plates). The title page and frontispiece are a little loose.
The book is split into 7 parts and each part/volume has a title page and black and white plate. Dimensions approximately 13.7cm x 9.4cm x 3.4cm. The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
