This lovely late Georgian three volume edition includes Our Village, Country Stories, Scenes and Characters by Mary Russell Mitford. They were published in 1828 by B Whittaker. The books are uniformly bound in half calf with cloth boards and marbled text block edges. The spine features four raised bands and delicate gilt decoration.
The books are in very good condition and have obviously been well looked after in their 200 years of life. There is wear and crushing to the corners, and the leather has split to reveal the board peeking out beneath. There is fading to the marbled text block edges and the boards also show some fading in places. The boards also show rubbing and occasional marking, and there is some loss to the surface of the leather at a couple of corners. The spines are faintly darkened and chipped, with light rubbing to the leather. The title label of volume one is brighter than the other two volumes.
Inside, two volumes have a pencilled name on the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning and significant foxing throughout, with occasional marking and creasing.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 19cm x 12cm x 2cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
