This rare three volume edition of Camilla by Fanny Burney was published in 1840 by Joseph Thomas. So the books are from the start of the Victorian era. They are uniformly bound in original publisher's cloth, with blind stamped detail to the boards and gilt decoration to the spines. The text block edges are gilt.
The books are in remarkably good condition considering they're almost 185 years old. There is some wear and crushing to the corners, with splitting to the cloth to reveal the board beneath. The boards show some light marking and discolouration, and the spines are faded. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting to the cloth, particularly to the joints. There is scuffing to the text block edges.
Inside, there are no inscriptions or dedications in any of the books, but volume two does show staining around the edge of the front endpaper. The pages show light age toning and foxing, with occasional minor marking. There is superficial cracking to the gutter in places which just shows the binding thread.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 12.8cm x 8cm x 2cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
