This stunning little book contains both Letters on the Improvement of the Mind and A Father's Legacy to his Daughters by the late Dr Gregory. It was published in 1820 and features a full leather binding with gilt decoration to the boards.
It's definitely showing it's age but is still readable and beautiful (if I may say so myself!). There is wear to the board edges and corners, with some loss to the surface of the leather. This has revealed the board beneath two corners. The boards are rubbed and marked, with some minor chipping to the surface of the leather, There are splits to both joints but the boards are held in place by the binding string. There is loss to the gilt on the spine and loss to the leather of the title label and spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there is a written inscription on the reverse of the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning throughout, with occasional creasing and sporadic foxing.
Dimensions approximately 13cm x 7.3cm x 1.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
