This beautiful edition of How Hettie Caught the Sunbeams by G P Dyer was published by John F Shaw and Co. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate inside dated 1894 - so the book is from the late Victorian era.
The book is bound in blue cloth with beautiful foliage decoration to the front board and spine. It’s in good condition but there is light wear to the corners and the book shows a slight forward lean. The cloth shows light soiling and marking, with bumping to the board edges. The spine is slightly darkened, with rubbing and loss to the foliage detail. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and a small split to the bottom of the front hinge. There is a written name and date on the front free endpaper. The pages show pronounced age toning and foxing throughout with occasional marking. There is also cracking to the gutter in places but there are no loose pages.
Dimensions approximately 19.3cm x 13.2cm x 1.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
