This stunning edition of Witty, Humorous and Merry Thoughts was published by David Bryce and Son. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be late Victorian (circa1890/1900).
The book features a blue cloth spine with gilt decoration. The boards are Mauchline ware, and feature beautiful floral decoration to the front.
Mauchline Ware was a technique that originated in the 1830's in the Scottish town of Mauchline in which a transfer print was applied to a lacquered wooden object.
It's in very good condition with light bumping to the front board and minor marking to the back board. Crushing to the spine ends and minor fraying to the cloth.
There is cracking to the hinges but the pages remain tightly bound. There are some written numbers opposite the title page, in both pen and pencil, and the pen ink has offset onto the half title page. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing.
Dimensions approximately 8.7cm x 6.2cm x 1.3cm.
