This stunning little edition of Macbeth by William Shakespeare was published by Knickerbocker Leather & Novelty Co. They were known to publish a 24-volume set of miniature Shakespeare books in the early 1900's.
The book features a limp leather binding as well as gilt lettering to the spine and front. There is a little coat of arms in gilt to the front. Text block edges tinted red.
Limp leather bindings originated from the medieval era but they became popular again in the late Victorian period. The leather extends over the edge of the book block in what's known as a yapp binding. This makes it very easy for the leather to become damaged and torn around the edges.
Externally, the book is in very good condition with just a slight skew to the book. There is light sunning to the spine and dulling to the top edge of the text block.
Inside, there is a small chip to the edge of the front free endpaper and the pages show light age toning throughout. There are no inscriptions.
Dimensions approximately 7.8cm x 5.5cm x 1cm.
The bubble wrap I use is either oxo-degradable or 100% recyclable; the jiffy bags are recyclable. Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
