This beautiful and rare edition of The Old Old Fairy Tales was collected and edited by Mrs Valentine and published by Frederick Warne. The book is undated but there is an inscription dated 1907. The book is bound in red cloth over bevelled boards with pictorial and gilt decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt.
The book is in good condition for it's age, but there is soiling and marking to the cloth. A splash mark to the back board has caused discolouration. The board edges and corners show light wear. The spine is faded and the gilt is dulled but the decoration is still bright. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. Some of the pages stick out a little from the edge of the text block.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning throughout, with sporadic foxing and scattered marking (often finger marks). The book features stunning colour plates as well as black and white illustrations within the text. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages are tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 21.2cm x 15.2cm x 5.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
