This beautiful edition of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott was published by Ward, Lock and Co Ltd. The book is undated but books in the Lily series usually date from the 1890's.
The book was part of the iconic Lily Series by Ward Lock and Co and is bound in dark green cloth, with stunning lily pads and lily of the valley decoration to the front and spine in gilt. The Lily Series has become a very popular binding with collectors, with it's delicate but beautiful decoration.
It's in good condition but there is a slight forward lean to the book and the corners are lightly crushed. There are minor marks to the boards and the spine is darkened, with some loss and dulling to the gilt. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with tape and all pages before the title page are missing. There are two written names on the front pastedown. The pages show occasional foxing and marking, with staining to the top corners of pages 7-9. Some of the top corners have been dog eared.
Dimensions approximately 18.3cm x 12.7cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
