This beautiful vintage edition of Effie's Friends or Chronicles of the Woods and Shore was published by James Nisbet & Co in 1866. So the book is from the earlier part of the Victorian era. The book is bound in burgundy cloth over bevelled boards, with stunning gilt decoration to the front board and spine.
Externally, it's in very good condition. There is some marking to the cloth and wear to the corners. The spine is faded whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There are some small bleached spots to the back board.
The text block is very shaky but all pages remain attached. There are cracks to the gutter throughout though, revealing the binding thread. The pages show some light age toning but are otherwise clean and bright with minimal foxing. There is a written inscription opposite the half title page.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
