This stunning edition of In The Garden was part of The Rambler Nature Books series. It features a wonderful cloth binding with a pasted on illustration to the front and floral decoration to the front board and spine. The roses are very much in the Glasgow School of Art style which Blackie became famous for. The book was published by Blackie and Son but isn't dated - these bindings usually date from the early 20th Century (circa 1910's).
The book is in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners. The board edges are also lightly worn and bumped. There is some marking to the back board and light rubbing to the decoration on the front and spine. The spine is darkened with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned but beautifully illustrated. There is an address label in the top corner of the front free endpaper and two stamped men underneath. The pages show light age toning with scattered foxing and marking (there are a couple of pencil scribbles in places). There are also occasional cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. Some of the bottom corners show creasing where they've folded inwards. There are two stamped addresses and a written name to the half title page. Dimensions approximately 19cm x 14.3cm x 1cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
