This stunning edition of The Poems of George Eliot was published by Thomas Y Crowell & Company in 1884 (the book is dated at the bottom of the front board which is unusual). So the book is from the late Victorian era.
The book is bound in mustard yellow cloth with striking floral decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's in very good condition, with the main condition point being a small black stain to the front board (over and above the G in George Eliot). The corners show a little wear and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. There are some small marks to the back board.
Inside, a name plate has been partially removed from the front pastedown and the pages show quite pronounced age toning throughout. There are occasional minor marks and chips to the page edges in places.
This special book will be hand wrapped in biodegradable bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
