This stunning edition of The Old Lieutenant and His Son by Norman Macleod was published by S W Partridge and Co. The book itself isn't dated but there is a presentation plate dated 1913/1914.
The book is bound in red cloth with elaborate art nouveau detailing to the front cover and spine. It's in remarkable condition for it's age with only minor signs of wear. There is light wear and crushing to the corners, and the boards have some minor marks and stains. There is a scratch to the top of the back board which has caused a chip and fraying to the cloth. The spine ends are crushed which has caused splitting to the cloth. There are some small white marks to the bottom of the spine.
Inside, there is a presentation plate on the front endpaper and the endpapers are tanned. There is marking and tanning to the pages throughout, but the text remains clear. There is creasing to the preliminary pages and sadly page 134 is missing. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the rest of the pages are tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 4cm.
Each book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
