This beautiful antique edition of Through Pain to Peace by Sarah Doudney was published by Hutchinson and Co. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1900.
The book is bound in blue cloth over bevelled boards with beautiful pictorial and gilt decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It is in good condition but there is wear to the corners and minor bumping to the board edges. The boards show some discolouration - possibly from past damp damage - and other more minor marking. There is some rubbing and loss to the decoration. The spine ends are crushed and the book shows a forward lean.
Inside, both hinges are cracked but the pages remain tightly bound. There are two written names to the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning throughout, with occasional marking. There are cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 19.2cm x 13.7cm x 4.m.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
