This beautiful antique edition of A Short History of French Literature by George Saintsbury was published by Oxford Clarendon Press in 1882. So the book is from the Victorian era. The book is bound in full calf leather with a school insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front board. The spine also features gilt tooling with five raised bands; all edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but there is marking and scuffing to the boards. The corners and board edges are lightly worn, whilst the spine shows light sunning and rubbing - this has dulled the gilt somewhat.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there is a written inscription on one of the blank preliminary pages. The pages show light age toning throughout but the text is clear and bright.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
