This stunning edition of Life and her Children by Arabella Buckley was published by Macmillan and Co in 1929. Arabella Buckley was an English writer and science educator. She was a particular champion of Darwinian evolution but focused more on the mind and morals, rather than competition and physical survival. She wrote multiple books for children, presenting scientific fact in a story book setting, much like a mother educating her children.
The book is bound in original publisher's green cloth with black and gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition with the most noticeable flaw being the sunning and discolouration to the spine. The boards show minor marks and loss to the surface colour of the cloth. There are some small holes in the cloth along the spine edges and minor splitting in the cloth at the spine ends. There is a small ink stain to the top edge of the text block.
Inside, there is a neatly written name on the front endpaper and the pages are clean and bright with minimal toning and marking. There are occasional cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
There are over 100 beautiful black and white illustrations which bring this lovely book on the natural world to life.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
